I went to my favorite deli for Matzo Ball Soup; a culinary premonition of sorts- sick as a dog with some bug for days after. Last time to that deli and haven’t been able to even think of ordering Matzo Ball Soup ever since.

@Katie (the other one): Fair enough. As a kid, I loved a restaurant that was written up in the paper as having “unsound food sources” and my big brothers told me that meant they cooked dogs and cats. To this day, I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I never went back–just in case. As a “grown up” (ha!), I’d probably subscribe to your theory and give them time to clean up their act. Literally.

Well I can say that I don’t think I’ve ever (knowingly) gotten sick from a restaurant. Now I’ve been to places where I’d noticed that they weren’t wearing gloves and handled my salad, and I sure as heck didn’t go back there. If a restaurant was given health code violations and I liked the place, I’d give them a few months to clean the place up and then revisit.

@karol: Love it. I know exactly what you mean and I’m guessing the absence of gloves wouldn’t come between me and great Brooklyn pizza either. I’m going to blog tomorrow and explain this, but really, how can you ever KNOW if you have food poisoning? Maybe it’s a coincidence that you’re puking all night? Maybe? (Ok, maybe not.)

I voted “no, that’s bananas” because I wouldn’t go back anywhere that made me *sick* but my favorite pizza place in the world, Difara’s in Brooklyn, constantly gets health code violations (but usually because Dom the old pizza guy refuses to wear a hat or gloves).
